The prospect of Championship football for at least a year is feeling uncomfortably close and another year in Purgatory may be too much to bear for an old ‘crusty’ like me; but the thing is that I could never bring myself to change allegiances and support another club just because it is in the Premiership.
The Boro is a bit like the ‘wife’, it’s a ‘til death do us part’ sort of relationship; and the similarities don’t end there. They both have a similar affect on my blood pressure, mind you the Boro don’t normally raise it more than twice a week, whereas she manages to drive it through the roof every bloody day!
I’m recovering from a hip replacement operation at the moment and have to have jabs in the belly every night to stop blood clots from forming, the wife, being a nurse, delights in administering them; I’m a bit worried about her shouts of “One Hundred and Eighty” as she launches the needle into me though. (I’m pretty sure she was a ‘Mackem’ in a former life). I always know if I’ve p****d her off ‘cos she pushes the needle in really slow just to make it hurt. Needless to say I’m writing this behind closed doors so she can’t see what I’m saying about her. I’m not scared of her like, but I don’t see any point in taking any unnecessary risks with my own well being either!
Talking about the wife’s penchant for needles, she might be of some use to the Boro if they choose humane euthanasia rather than the slow death with its attendant suffering, which seems to be the situation at the moment.
I hope that anyone reading this does not get the impression that I have given up hope of a last gasp reprieve from the ‘long drop’; far be that from the case, I live with constant hope; we have to press on to the end and fight ‘tooth and nail’ to retain our place at the top table. I’m just mentally preparing myself for the worst case scenario.
I don’t have, nor would I be presumptuous enough to give the management team at the Boro, any advice on what they should be doing to remedy the situation. The only thing I would say is that time is a finite commodity and at the moment it is running out fast; so please for all our sakes if you can do something, get on and do it.
There is one other Boro supporter who lives in the town that I now live in and he’s gone AWOL, we’ve put out an APB for him but he seems determined not to be found. Mind you, I don’t blame him too much because if the worst outcome becomes reality, life will be hard to bear, particularly as most of the local population support Wolves and if we pass like ships in the night with them going in an upward direction as we sink the opposite way, the ‘sledging’ will be hard to suffer. But that will never happen, will it Mr Southgate?
